The final year project is being developed in Java. It involves 'listening' to a guitar output via the microphone socket of any desktop PC and determining the frequency (or note) played by the guitarist. It is hoped that the software can be used as a learning tool to practice scales and simple melodies. The product is currently functioning correctly in a rudimentry form. The project is scheduled for completion in May 2006.
The final year group project was completed in January 2006. It was a 'real' assignment where 10 students were assigned to develop a portal system to link together the various web applications associated with Southampton Solent University. The portal, built using PHP and CSS, acts as a single-login hub to manage the other applications. The product is currently undergoing integration with the University's EDC Team and is hoped to be launched in 2007/08.
The Threecliff Bay website was part of a final year unit of my degree. Requirements were laid down to build a site that the company could use to allow its customers to book holidays (of varying complexity), and manage those bookings at a subsequent time. It was developed using a combination of Java, JDO, HTML, and CSS. JSP's were not employed but will be included in a later iteration. Currently, form processing is done with servlets, and the display managed by HTML and CSS. The project was designed using UML use cases and sequence diagrams.
This site was also developed using PHP and CSS, with Photoshop used to create the gifs. Code was optimized to incorporate php functions for generic page layouts, and like-to-like images (such as the rounded corners) were re-used to minimise storage and download time.
